New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has issued an update on linebacker Harold Landry.
Speaking to reporters before practice on Wednesday, Vrabel stated that Landry is working hard to make his return to the field but did not provide a timetable for when he will be cleared to play.
“I would say that anybody that's still here and that's getting treatment is tracking [to return]," said Vrabel. "How quickly they track or what that pace is I don't know. I just know that he's working extremely hard, and like I've said a few times before, whenever he's ready, he'll start to return to play or he'll start that process. He's doing some things on the side. He's doing some things with the strength coaches and the trainers, and I know he's working hard."
Landry remains on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list and has yet to play this season as he continues working toward a return.
Last season, Landry appeared in 15 games and recorded 8.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 19 quarterback hits and one forced fumble.
New England has received excellent production from edge rushers Elijah Ponder and Gabe Jacas, who have helped provide a boost to the team's pass rush while Landry has been out. However, with Dre'Mont Jones having yet to produce at the level that the Patriots anticipated heading into the season, Landry's eventual return would provide the team with a significant addition to its defensive front and another proven pass-rushing presence.
