New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown is reportedly moving around "pretty well" after suffering a high ankle sprain in the regular season opener, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
There hasn't been a clear timetable for Brown's return from the injury. The expectation is that it could take anywhere from four to eight weeks for the three-time All-Pro to get back on the field. However, Schefter had some potentially good news for the Patriots in his latest update.
“I think that that’s gonna take a little while. I think it was supposed to be a six to eight-week injury. I think he’s been, from what I understand, moving pretty well. Looks like a guy who can come back on the quicker side of six weeks than eight weeks, so that’s encouraging,"
Schefter said on WEEI's Rich & Ken with Ted Johnson. "But you’re on IR—that’s minimum 4. I’m gonna guess today, based on some of the things, maybe it’s six. Maybe it’s six. But there’s still a little ways to go, and you have to see how he’s recovering.”
The Patriots have clearly missed Brown on the field.
His absence has led to early struggles for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who has thrown one touchdown and four interceptions through two games. Brown had three catches for 26 yards before exiting the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Romeo Doubs did offer solid production in the team's first game without Brown in last week's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with three receptions for 96 yards. Doubs and others will need to continue playing at a high level to keep the offense afloat until Brown's eventual return.
