Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat has been suspended for the next two games due to violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
He will miss the team's matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 7, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs.
Sweat's absence will deprive Chicago of one of its primary pass-rushing threats, which may potentially give Patriots quarterback Drake Maye additional time to survey the field and make plays. The Patriots will look to take advantage of the matchup as they prepare for the road test against the Bears.
On the season, Sweat has recorded two sacks and seven combined tackles, including two solo tackles. His absence may leave Chicago with a significant void along its defensive front
as it prepares to face New England.
The Patriots' offensive line enters the upcoming stretch with momentum after a strong showing in the team’s Week 5 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The unit helped establish the run while providing protection for Maye, offering encouraging signs for the team.
New England will first face the New York Jets in a favorable Week 6 matchup before turning its attention to Chicago, where the team will be looking to maintain its improved offensive rhythm for the stretch ahead.
