The New England Patriots’ offense has not found a way to consistently get into the end zone to begin the 2026 NFL season.
According to CBS Sports’ Doug Clawson,
the Patriots have scored only 29 points on 30 drives through the first three games of the season, amounting to 0.97 points per drive, which is the lowest mark by any team through three games since the New York Jets in 2021 during quarterback Zach Wilson’s first three career starts.The statistic places New England’s early scoring struggles in a stark historical context. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has gotten off to a slow start to the year. He has completed only 3-of-8 passes with a 1-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the red zone so far this season. He’s also taken two sacks
in the red zone to begin the year.
Additionally, Maye has thrown only two fewer interceptions (6) this season than in all of last season (8) and has not executed at the level expected of him. Overall, that has greatly contributed to New England not scoring enough and not winning the way they were expected to heading into the season.
For the Patriots, the issue is not simply a lack of explosive plays but not consistently turning possessions into points. New England will need to find greater consistency on early downs, and convert more drives into touchdowns to remain in contention.
