New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been cleared to play in Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Buffalo Bills after working through a right shoulder injury.
Maye was a full participant in practice during the week and was not assigned a game-status designation ahead of the Patriots’ trip to Buffalo. The second-team All-Pro from 2025 is expected to remain under center for New England’s big test against the Bills.
The 24-year-old Maye is off to a strikingly slow start to the year. His play has been greatly underwhelming, as he leads the NFL in interceptions thrown with six and has only thrown one passing touchdown on the year. Maye has also completed only 63.8 percent of his passes this season, which marks a career-low for him.
He and
the Patriots offense as a whole are looking to rebound from last week’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Maye will be tasked with orchestrating the offense for New England against a Bills defense playing well behind stellar play from Greg Rousseau.
While Maye is set to play, New England enters the game without key defensive contributors. Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore and cornerback Christian Gonzalez have been ruled out with shoulder injuries, leaving New England to adjust its defensive rotation against Buffalo.
Maye’s status was a concern during the practice week, but his clearance gives New England its starting quarterback for one of the most significant games on its schedule this season.
