Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason believes that the New England Patriots should hold Drake Maye accountable for the costly turnovers through the first three weeks of the season.
He even went as far as suggesting that the team bench Maye for the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills.
This comes after the third-year quarterback turned the ball over three times in Sunday's ugly 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had one fumble with no defender around him and threw two interceptions at EverBank Stadium.
One of those interceptions occurred in the red zone before halftime and ruined a chance for the Patriots to cut into the lead early and potentially make the game more competitive. Through three games, Maye has turned the ball over seven
times and completed only one touchdown pass.
"It's gotta be a psychological thing, and he's gotta be held accountable somehow," Esiason said on The Greg Hill Show. "I don't think they'll do it, but I would make him sit this week. That's how bad it's gotten, and it's been bad since last postseason. And we all know it. We all see it. But the interception to Travis Hunter was mind-blowing to me, especially after the interceptions that he has thrown in the previous two games."

Maye's decision-making through the start of the season has been alarming, and there should be real concerns about his ability to lead the team in his current state.
That doesn't mean he can't turn things around with a good performance. Things would drastically change if he somehow went into Buffalo and had a good enough showing to upset the Bills. That would instill confidence in the team and serve somewhat as a reset moving forward.
