The New England Patriots have a lot going for them with the 2026 NFL season set to kick off on Wednesday.
The Patriots have it all, with a strong wide receiver room, two-running back set, a revamped offensive line, restructured defense, and a second-team All-Pro quarterback in Drake Maye at the forefront of it all. With all of the muscle that the Patriots have at the present, what (or who) will pack the most punch for the team in the new season?
ESPN’s Mike Reiss labeled Maye as being the Patriots’ biggest strength heading into the new season.
”The 2025 MVP runner-up returns for a second year in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels' system, and teammates say they've noticed a difference in his overall command and leadership,” Reiss said. “Trading
for WR A.J. Brown gives him a sure-fire No. 1 target that was arguably the team's biggest need.”
Brown and Romeo Doubs have the talent to further the dramatic turnaround that the Patriots have seen with their passing attack, and the offensive line might reduce the number of sacks that Maye takes.
Nevertheless, Maye going from a developing rookie in 2024 to an AP MVP finalist in 2025 puts him under the brightest of lights to deliver in 2026. And rightfully so, based on his talent level as well as his accomplishments from last season.
Maye’s ability to get the ball down the field, coupled with his accuracy, position him to take New England’s offense to another level in the new season. He will be the biggest factor in whether or not the Patriots get over the hump and win the Super Bowl once it’s all said and done.
