Is a big year on the horizon for New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson in 2026?
According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, Henderson is one of five running backs best positioned to have a breakout year in the upcoming season.
"Henderson's struggles in pass protection and as a receiver out of the backfield led to the Ohio State product spending most of the season playing second fiddle to Rhamondre Stevenson," Davenport wrote. "...As Henderson improves as a player, he's going to earn a larger share of the backfield work in New England. And if that larger share comes sooner rather than later, look out."
Rhamondre Stevenson is a threat to Henderson receiving a much larger workload in 2026, as the former is a proven 1,000-yard rusher
who played well when on the field last season. The Patriots’ two-back system will likely enable Henderson to get more carries, but it will also cap him at a certain point, barring an injury to Stevenson.
Nevertheless, it is well within reason to expect Henderson to improve as a ball-carrier, which may lead to an increase in his numbers, and as a result, lift him toward a 1,000-yard season of his own on the ground in 2026, after he came close with 911 rushing yards in 2025.
That makes him a player to watch intently from Week 1 to Week 17 and beyond if the opportunity presents itself.
