New England Patriots linebacker Darius Muasau has the backing of coach Mike Vrabel after he was claimed off waivers by the team on Monday.

Speaking to reporters before practice on Tuesday, Vrabel commended Muasau for the command that he’s shown playing the linebacker position in the NFL to date.

”Darius has shown the ability to play both spots inside,” Vrabel said.

While also mentioning newly signed tight end Cameron Latu, Vrabel explained Muasau and Latu as "guys that have played NFL games, meaningful football games.”

Muasau played in 12 games last season as a member of the New York Giants and started in 11. He recorded a sack, three tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and a pass breakup last season while also maintaining a substantial role on special

teams. Muasau had his share of moments last season for the Giants and produced in his second season in the league.

The 25-year-old Muasau will now serve as the Patriots’ backup linebacker behind Christian Elliss and Robert Spillane. This comes after the team decided to move forward with K.J. Britt on the practice squad, as opposed to the reserve role that Muasau now occupies.
