New England Patriots center Jared Wilson said he had never witnessed an offensive line endure the injury troubles that the team experienced during its Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets.
According to the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan, Wilson stated after the game that the number of injuries that the Patriots sustained was the most incredible he’d ever seen.
“It's my second year in the NFL. I played college and I played high school. I've never, in my life, seen this, even just watching football,” Wilson said.
The Patriots suffered multiple setbacks along the offensive line against New York.
Starting guard Alijah Vera-Tucker left with a hamstring injury, offensive tackle Morgan Moses exited with an ankle injury, and reserve interior offensive lineman
Ben Brown departed with a knee injury.
The losses forced New England to adjust its rotation as the game unfolded, further challenging the unit’s depth. Caleb Lomu stepped in at tackle, while Matt Pryor and Walter Rouse filled in for the injured guards.
Wilson missed four games in his rookie year last season, as did Will Campbell, but the rest of the Patriots’ starting offensive line did not miss a single game last season. Now, only six games into the current year, starting right guard Mike Onwenu and backup Greg Van Roten are on injured reserve, and the three banged-up Patriots stars add to New England’s personnel concerns.
