The New England Patriots’ defense and special teams unit warrants must-start consideration in fantasy football for Week 6 against the New York Jets.
New England has allowed 1,113 passing yards and six passing touchdowns, along with 454 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns through the first five games of the year. Even with the Patriots dealing with several players who are banged up, the matchup remains appealing.
Jets quarterback Geno Smith has completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 1,084 yards and six touchdowns without an interception, while taking 16 sacks. Garrett Wilson has contributed 31 receptions for 374 yards and three touchdowns this season, providing Smith with a top-shelf No. 1 receiver to target.
The matchup presents an opportunity
for fantasy managers to capitalize on the Patriots’ defensive production against a Jets team that has offensive talent, also including running back Braelon Allen, but also figures to be contained by New England’s front.
In regards to the Patriots’ special teams unit, kicker Andy Borregales has converted 6-of-8 field-goal attempts and all 12 extra-point attempts this season. In Week 5, he made his only field-goal attempt and converted all six extra points during New England’s 45-17 victory over Las Vegas. His recent performance adds another positive element to the Patriots’ special-teams outlook entering the divisional matchup.
