New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had nothing but praise for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Maye met with the media on Tuesday afternoon as the Patriots get set to take on the Bears at Soldier Field on Thursday night.
“Him in the pocket, I don’t know if I could do some of the things he could do," Maye admitted, when speaking with media members. "He’s special in the way he can move and kind of escape and evade pressure. Throwing on the run is pretty cool to watch. I don’t know if I’m that shifty in the pocket. He can do some cool things. He’s got crazy arm talent, and it’s fun to watch. I don’t know if I’m that flexible to try some of those things, but I think the way he plays the game is cool. I know he’s doing a great job,
and I know in Chicago, he’s got the city fun to watch.”
Maye and Williams met once before during their rookie season back in 2024.
The Patriots earned a 19-3 win over the Bears on the road. That obviously feels like ages ago at this point, with both players developing into two of the most impressive young quarterbacks in the NFL.
This meeting will be on a short week, and the Patriots are dealing with multiple injuries along the offensive line. So Maye will have his work cut out for him against an aggressive Bears defense in this matchup. He will also be missing wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins.
It will be an opportunity for Maye and the Patriots to firmly establish themselves as Super Bowl contenders by going on the road and knocking off one of the top teams in the NFC in a primetime game.
