New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell offered words of encouragement to teammate Alijah Vera-Tucker following the offensive lineman's recent injury.
According to the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed, Campbell had high remarks for Vera-Tucker as the latter gets going on his stint on injured reserve.
"I'm praying for him,” Campbell said. “I know he'll be back and be ready to go. He's playing his butt off all year, and it sucks that it happened. But it's the best case scenario out of that situation.”
Vera-Tucker suffered a hamstring injury during New England's Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets, and the Patriots subsequently placed him on injured reserve. His absence creates another challenge for an offensive line dealing with injuries.
Vera-Tucker
has allowed a sack, 11 quarterback pressures and three quarterback hits this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He has been a steady presence in the offense and his absence will be felt in the short-term.
New England's upcoming schedule features matchups against Miami, Green Bay and Detroit over the next three weeks. Miami has allowed 26.4 points per game, Green Bay 20.8, and Detroit 29.6. All three teams present different challenges for a Patriots offense seeking consistency up front.
The Patriots will lean on their remaining offensive linemen, particularly Walter Rouse and Matt Pryor, to handle duties at the guard slot until Vera-Tucker returns.
