The New England Patriots might look to trade cornerback Carlton Davis III, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.
Davis has dealt with a neck injury that has caused him to miss four games this season. The absence has disrupted his availability and rhythm in the Patriots' secondary.
His Week 8 performance against the Miami Dolphins was not among his strongest outings, which serves as the last image seen of him on the field with trade speculations now existent.
However, Davis has earned a 76 overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus this year, which ranks No. 11 in the league at the cornerback position. His coverage grade of 75.3 ranks No. 12 among all qualified corners.
"Carlton Davis would be another one to watch, potentially somebody who
could be moved," Breer said on NBC Sports Boston.
Through four games played thus far this season, Davis has recorded 25 tackles, along with a pass breakup and a tackle for loss.
With Davis still being in his prime, New England might look to capitalize on his experience while potentially addressing other roster needs before the trade deadline.
The Patriots might look for draft picks or a player who fills a greater area of need in exchange for the veteran corner.
