New England Patriots legend and former wide receivers coach Troy Brown gave a critical review of former Patriots first-round draft pick N’Keal Harry when appearing on the Patriots Postgame Show.
Brown, who was the Patriots' wide receivers coach from 2021-2023, specifically spoke about the differences between Harry and former Patriots undrafted wideout Jakobi Meyers. The Patriots' legend saw two completely different personalities and work ethics between a first-round pick and an undrafted player in the NFL.
And the undrafted player wanted it more.
“When I was dealing with N’Keal Harry, a guy who didn’t really love football, and trying to get through to him about being here, how important it was to be here in the offseason and those kinds of things,
and then being part of the team and developing as a teammate, and bonding with your team," Brown said. "He just never really got it, and I could never really get through to him, no matter how I communicated with him. He just didn’t have that love of football in him. He and Jakobi Meyers came in the same year, and they couldn’t be any more different than what they are.”
Harry appeared in 33 regular-season games for the Patriots, making 18 starts from 2019-2021. He recorded 57 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns during that time. The wideout never lived up to his billing as a first-round draft selection. He would go on to play for the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks before being released in 2024 and remaining teamless.
Meanwhile, Meyers had three straight seasons with 800-plus yards with the Patriots. He went over 1,000 receiving yards in his first year with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. The former NC State standout is currently playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If anything, Brown's comments prove that success isn't determined by where you're drafted or if you're even drafted. It's all about what you do with the opportunity given.
