There are no hard feelings on Kayshon Boutte's end for the way things ended with the New England Patriots.
The Houston Texans wide receiver reacted to Patriots coach Mike Vrabel's reasoning behind the team's decision to trade him last week. According to Vrabel
, Boutte probably would have been inactive in games with the Patriots due to the incredible depth at wide receiver and his lack of special teams contributions."I mean, no, they did pay two guys to come in and do that job. Sadly, it is the way it is, being that it's a contract year for me, I seek the bigger role," Boutte said on Wednesday, via KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson. "I feel like what Vrabes said in his media interview, it wasn't nothing bad. I wouldn't say I used that as fuel. At the end
of the day, it was an honest opinion. He sat down to speak his truth and pretty much moved forward from it."
Fans in New England rooted for the team to keep Boutte on the roster as insurance for A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. His presence gave the team one of the deepest receiving rooms in the league, and there was hope that he'd be able to still work his way into the mix.
With that said, the best situation for Boutte was always leaving for a team that would ensure him more opportunities on the field. He is currently playing in the final year of his rookie contract, and he'll be looking to produce at a high clip to maximize his value on the free agent market in 2027.
There are no certainties that he'll be able to do that in Houston, either. However, with Jayden Higgins out for the season and Tank Dell still iffy, there are reasons to believe that Boutte will get opportunities if he can quickly build chemistry with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
