FOXBOROUGH, Mass – When it comes to practice, Drake Maye takes pride in getting the opportunity to go against one of the best cornerbacks in the National Football League.
The quarterback regularly targets Christian Gonzalez during the team drills, regardless of the receiver he is matched up against. A combination of some perfectly placed throws by Maye, as well as some impressive catches by AJ Brown, Kayshon Boutte and Pop Douglas, led to Gonzalez being beaten three times.
It's something Maye loves doing, and he will continue to challenge him
“I love going at good players, and I think he wants that," Maye said after Friday's practice. "He practices hard. We’re always making jokes back and forth at each other. I remember back in OTAs last year he picked
me off like two or three times.
"So, it’s fun to go against a guy like him especially when we got some guys that I feel like can give him some good work. I feel like a player like Gonzo in practice, you feel like when he’s back side you don’t wanna look over there," he added. "I’m the type that wants to go over there and challenge him. He knows that. Obviously he’s a great player in this league, and I love having him on my team and being able to practice against him.”
