New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown apologized to Romeo Doubs after picking up the receiver following Doubs' touchdown last week, according to CLNS’ Taylor Kyles.
Brown’s actions came while he and other teammates came to celebrate Doubs’ play, completely unaware that Doubs was dealing with a shoulder injury at the time. Brown acknowledged the mistake and apologized for lifting the receiver while he was hurt.
Doubs sustained the shoulder injury during the first quarter of the Patriots' 26-19 win over the Jets. The injury proved serious enough for the Patriots to place him on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least the next four games. His absence serves as another obstacle for a receiving group also dealing with Mack Hollins on IR.
Brown’s performance in the game offered another glimpse of a season in which the connection between the two receivers has yet to develop. Both players have dealt with injuries to begin the year, limiting their opportunities to build chemistry and establish a consistent on-field dynamic.
With availability remaining a concern, the two receivers have had limited chances to develop their partnership. Their ability to stay healthy will be key to determining how that relationship evolves moving forward.
