The New England Patriots continue to assess veteran talent in free agency this summer with the 2026 NFL season looming.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots had defensive tackle DaQuan Jones and linebacker Shaq Thompson in for visits.
Jones began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans from 2014-20 before enjoying a brief one-year stint with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He most recently played for the Buffalo Bills from 2022-25. Jones recorded his first-career interception in 2025, along with three sacks and a forced fumble with the Bills.
Thompson played for the Carolina Panthers from 2015-24 before playing for the Bills in 2025. He recorded two passes defensed, six tackles for loss and a forced fumble across 12 games played last season
with the Bills.
The Patriots got a first look at their roster in action in the team’s preseason Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. New England now has two veteran defenders in consideration with next season just under a month away from beginning.
