New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels discussed the absence of wide receiver A.J. Brown and how it could affect the offense.
Brown was placed on injured reserve on Friday, meaning he'll miss at least the next four games of the season. He went down with a high ankle sprain in the third quarter of Wednesday's season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Before the injury, Brown had hauled in three catches for 26 yards. With him now out for multiple games, McDaniels will need to adjust the offensive game plan.
“Any injury that you get at this time of the season, you kind of approach it with an all-hands-on-deck approach," McDaniels said while appearing onJones & Keefe, via ESPN's Mike Reiss. "We got a lot of different skill guys
that can do a lot of different things. There isn’t one person on the roster that can replace anybody like A.J. – in the middle of a game or a stretch of a season. So we’ll band together and figure out what we can do well and then try to get guys in positions to play to their strengths.”
With Brown down, the Patriots will have to turn to the likes of Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins and maybe even Efton Chism III to help fill the void.
The schedule won't get any easier with the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting Foxborough next week, followed by back-to-back games on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. The Patriots have their work cut out for them if they have any hope of bouncing back.
