New England Patriots veteran wide receiver Mack Hollins was fined twice for the same play.
In the latest NFL Operations update, it revealed that Hollins was fined $11,941 for unsportsmanlike conduct and $22,500 for unnecessary roughness for a fourth-quarter play in last week's blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The unsportsmanlike conduct came on a taunting penalty, while the unnecessary roughness stemmed from Hollins' use of a helmet to try and run over a defensive player.
It was a play that drew criticism considering it ruined a potential touchdown drive for the Patriots, who only had three points at the time of the foul. However, some would argue that Hollins' actions didn't warrant a drive-killing penalty on the play.
The veteran wideout
pointed his hand to the ground in a taunting gesture and shook his head at the defender before the flag came flying. It was a tough call against a Patriots team that had struggled to finish drives with points throughout the game.
In the end, the Patriots lost by a 35-6 margin, and Hollins got handed a hefty double fine.
