Do the New England Patriots need another quarterback for next season?
Apparently so.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named the Patriots as a fitting landing spot for star free agent quarteback Jimmy Garoppolo to sign with at some point in 2026.
“While the McDaniels-Garoppolo connection would be a big piece of the equation for New England, it's also worth noting that the Patriots have a history of bringing back former backups for quarterback depth,” Knox said.
Garoppolo last played for the Los Angeles Rams in 2025. He played in only three games for the Rams last season, but has a history of having great seasons in the league, particularly in 2019, when he completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 3,978 passing yards with the San Francisco 49ers.
In 2021, he went for 3,810 passing yards under center in San Francisco. Garoppolo led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in the former season, and the NFC Championship Game in the latter.
The Patriots have a good backup in Tommy DeVito who is capable of being a difference-maker on the ground and a spark plug in the passing attack. Patriots rookie Behren Morton also has promise.
However, Garoppolo’s track record and prowess in the pocket makes him a fitting option for the Patriots to add to their roster in 2026 to ensure that their talented offense will still be in position to contend for a Super Bowl if star starter Drake Maye gets hurt.
