Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby didn't make any excuses for the 45-17 blowout loss to the New England Patriots last week.
If keeping it real cost a nickel, Crosby would still be a millionaire. The five-time Pro Bowler shared his thoughts on the Raiders' performance after getting lit up by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and an offense that combined for 536 total yards, six touchdowns and one field goal.
"We never played with a lead. They were just a step ahead the whole time," Crosby admitted on The Rush Podcast. "That's the thing, it's a part of the game. You can rush your ass off. [Expletive], I had some [expletive] incredible rushes yesterday, it's just the ball is out. Do you know what I mean? That's part of it.
"But he could hold
the ball, and you get three, and all of a sudden you're the hero. So that's why you can't go and feed into the media and all of this [expletive]. It's like, don't live in extremes. You have to understand what comes with it. We got our ass whooped, period, point blank. Fans should be upset. The team should be upset. The coaches are upset."
Despite being banged up, the Patriots' offensive line did a tremendous job of keeping the Raiders' defensive front, including Crosby, from wrecking the game. Maye had plenty of time in the pocket to survey the field and deliver accurate throws to receivers.
It really is impressive, given the initial concerns about the offensive line's depth. Right guard Mike Onwenu is currently sidelined with an injury, and his backup, Greg Van Roten, is on injured reserve. The Patriots also played a significant stretch in last week's game without left tackle Will Campbell, who went down with a knee injury.
The unit showed resilience, and it ultimately paid off in a big way.
