New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels talked about Super Bowl LX and was asked about Wednesday’s rematch with the Seattle Seahawks. He lamented what he could have done better as the Patriots reflect on the Super Bowl.
The Patriots lost by a 29-13 margin in a game where the Seattle defense was able to dominate the Patriots' offensive line. With that being said, it wasn’t just the offensive line that struggled. The entire offensive unit had difficulty breaking through the Seattle defense.
The Patriots recorded 331 total yards on 67 total offensive plays, but the points were sporadic. New England scored all of their 13 points in the fourth quarter, as the Seahawks were able to take control of the game early, and never let up.
McDaniels accepted responsibility for the result, as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss on Sunday.
"I didn't do a good enough job. Point it at me. They 'out-everythinged' us in the game," McDaniels said as the Patriots continued preparations for a rematch that opens the NFL's regular season Wednesday.
"We have a lot of things we learned. But I think this will be a different game, I think it will be a new game. It's a new year. We have some different players. They have a few guys that are new. They certainly found some opportunities last year, and hopefully we've done a good job trying to limit those Wednesday night."
The coach undoubtedly learned new lessons. It’s also fair to say that they upgraded at the wide receiver position. Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown should be able to make a difference in the outcome of Wednesday’s game.
The Seahawks will still be tough. After all, they are the defending Super Bowl champions. However, the Patriots have turned the page and have tunnel vision ahead of the season opener, and McDaniels undoubtedly has been preparing for this game.
