New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft spoke with the media on Saturday and indicated that the team has offered star cornerback Christian Gonzalez a contract that would make him the highest-paid corner in the NFL.
The deal would also make him the highest-paid player in franchise history.
"We love Christian Gonzalez. We love him as a player, as a person. That's why we've made an offer to him that makes him the highest-paid player ever to play that position in the NFL," Kraft said on Saturday. "And coincidentally, it's the highest contract in Patriots franchise history. So we're glad we drafted him, and he's developed here. And we hope he'll be with us for a long time."

One has to wonder if the hold-up for Gonzalez's extension has anything to do with the ongoing conversations between the Seattle Seahawks and cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
Gonzalez shares the same agent as Witherspoon, and both are in line to make top cornerback money. That has led many to speculate that the two deals could get done roughly around the same time.
Gonzalez is coming off a Pro Bowl season in 2025, after earning an All-Pro nod in 2024. He recorded 69 tackles and 10 pass deflections in 14 games last year. Although the interceptions were not there, he still held his reputation as a lockdown corner throughout the season.
The Patriots would be wise to lock him down to a long-term deal, and now it appears that they are on the verge of doing so.
