The Madden NFL 27 simulation of the regular season opener between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks had more drama than the Super Bowl LX meeting between the two teams.
Surprisingly enough, the underdog Patriots went into halftime with a 14-3 lead on the road at Lumen Field.
New England's defense continued to give the Seahawks' offense fits with defensive tackle Milton Williams and edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones both getting to quarterback Sam Darnold. On the offensive side of the ball, Drake Maye feasted on big plays with his many receiving weapons.
He connected on a short touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs, before reeling off a deep touchdown throw to DeMario Douglas late in the second quarter.
The next score for the Patriots came on a long
touchdown run by TreVeyon Henderson, who saw daylight and took it to the house in the third quarter. It initially looked like the Super Bowl LX rematch would be a blowout going in the other direction.
But Darnold and company wouldn't go away easily.
The Seahawks scored two unanswered touchdowns and a field goal to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. It looked like it was game over for the Patriots. However, with 14 seconds left on the clock, Maye engineered an improbable comeback drive that started with a completion to A.J. Brown and was highlighted by a pass interference called on a deep throw attempt to Doubs.
That set the Patriots up in good field position for kicker Andy Borregales to boot an easy game-winner through the uprights for the 24-22 victory.
An upset win over the Seahawks would be a major tone-setter for the Patriots to start off the 2026 season. Even with all of the new additions, they'll have their work cut out against the same Seahawks team that bullied them in the Super Bowl.
