New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel offered an update on the status of linebacker Harold Landry III before the team’s most recent practice on Wednesday.
According to Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller, Vrabel declared that Landry will not begin practicing yet as he continues his recovery while on the physically unable to perform list.
"Correct. Not yet. Harold continues to work hard to try to get back. I think we'll just have to be smart about when we start his window and then what that looks like. But not yet," Vrabel said.
Landry’s status is significant as the team has gotten off to a 1-2 start to the season and is in need of better play from their vanguards on offense and defense. Nevertheless, once he is eventually cleared to practice, New England
will evaluate his readiness for game action before inserting him back into the lineup.
The veteran Landry recorded 8.5 sacks last season. He helped the Patriots wage a run to the Super Bowl at the end of that season. He has yet to play in a game this year. Along with Landry, veteran Dre'Mont Jones and rookie edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins have also suffered injuries.
That has left a massive void at pass rusher, with second-year defender Elijah Ponder and rookie Gabe Jacas as the top healthy options to fill it.
