The New England Patriots re-signed offensive lineman Ben Brown and signed rookie linebacker Erick Hunter to their 53-man roster on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, as the team continues to refine its unit for this season.
Brown’s return restores depth along the interior offensive line for New England and brings back the team’s key backup behind left tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker, right tackle Mike Onwenu and center Jared Wilson.
The Patriots had moved on from Brown on Monday amid a wave of transactions, but his return, which was expected, indicates that New England still values his familiarity with the offense and ability to play at multiple slots. Brown, who has experience at center and guard, provides insurance for the team for this season.
Hunter gives the Patriots another contributor off the edge and will get to compete for defensive snaps in New England’s edge rusher rotation next season. The move continues a series of roster adjustments that the Patriots have made following their recent string of moves, as the team shapes its active roster ahead of Week 1.
