The New England Patriots are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 on Sunday. So for this week's Gimme Him, we are going to keep the focus on the defensive side of the ball, with multiple players out with injury.
Jaguars two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Josh Hines-Allen would be my pick for the Patriots. He'd instantly boost the pass rush and provide another playmaker on defense to strike fear into the hearts of opposing quarterbacks.
Hines-Allen is coming off a 2025 season that saw him record eight sacks and 49 combined tackles in 17 games. He has been a consistent pass-rusher throughout his career. However, the 2023 season was when he really started to break out. He had 17.5 sacks and 66 combined tackles in 17 games that year and established
himself as a premier pass-rusher.
For his career, he has played in 110 games and recorded 62 sacks. He has 353 combined tackles, two interceptions and 11 forced fumbles. He can do it all on defense.
He has started off strong in 2026 as well, recording eight tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble. The Patriots' pass rush has overachieved through two games, but they could still use a veteran player to help out with Harold Landry III, Dre'Mont Jones and rookie Quintayvious Hutchins sidelined.
In addition to helping the pass rush, Hines-Allen would take some of the pressure off the Patriots' secondary. His ability to close the gap on the quarterback quickly would limit the time needed for them to hold up in their coverage assignments. It would be a huge step in the right direction for a Patriots defense that is already considered elite.
