New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye likes the direction that the team’s offense is heading in after the first two weeks of the season.
Speaking to reporters after practice, Maye stated that New England’s offense is beginning to take shape nicely, citing the team’s work habits and preparation as reasons for optimism.
“Yeah, I think we’re finding ourselves,” Maye said. “I think every time you get into a new season with new guys, new players and you’re battling injuries, every team in the league is trying to improve. Really for us, it's about finding ourselves. This time last year, I remember we were 1-2 going into the [Carolina] Panthers, and we were trying to figure ourselves out. ...I’m happy with the guys and how we’re practicing and how we're
trying to approach practice.”

Maye’s remarks come after the Patriots put together a better offensive showing in the team’s 20-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 than that of their performance in their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, which ended in a loss.
Romeo Doubs went for 96 receiving yards in the win over the Steelers after going without a catch in Week 1. Maye reduced his interceptions from three in the opener to one in the victory over Pittsburgh, and the Patriots played better as a team.
New England is still establishing rhythm and cohesion in the early stages of the year. For the Patriots, the next step will be for Maye to have his best game of the season in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with efficiency and ball security complementing volume yardage and deep throws that run consistent with what he put on display in 2025 as a second-team All-Pro.
New England will also need the next man up to fill in for Mike Onwenu, whose injury delivers a big blow to the team’s offensive line. The Patriots offense remains a work in progress but is on a positive path toward putting it all together until superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown returns from injury.
