The New England Patriots struck a deal with linebacker K.J. Britt to add him to the practice squad on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. They are officially bringing back the veteran defender after he was released by the team in the final round of roster cuts.
Britt played for the Miami Dolphins in 2025 prior to signing with the Patriots in the offseason. He played in all 17 games, one of which he started, and recorded 35 total tackles and a quarterback hit on the year.
Britt also played well in the preseason for New England. He recorded three tackles and a tackle for loss in New England’s 13-13 tie against the Indianapolis Colts in the preseason opener, followed by registering a tackle against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Patriots’ second
preseason game. He stopped the run well and played with veteran savvy that helped him garner a spot on the team throughout the offseason.
The Patriots add Britt back into their ranks for this season, giving them an experienced depth piece behind Christian Elliss, Robert Spillane, Namdi Obiazor and the newly-signed Darius Muasau. He will get the chance to work his way onto the active roster at some point this season, either if his play warrants consideration or if injuries create an opening for him during the regular season.
