Former New England Patriots second-round draft pick Tyquan Thornton, who currently plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, had a breakout performance in Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Unfortunately, that played as background noise to the devastating injury he suffered in the game.
After coming down with a big reception late in the fourth quarter, Thornton's leg got caught awkwardly when being tackled to the ground. The former Baylor standout initially celebrated after the play, before crumpling back to the ground after trying to stand up.
Before the injury, Thornton led the Chiefs' offense with five receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Things never worked out for Thornton in New England, but since joining the Chiefs, he appeared
to finally be turning a corner in his NFL career. He has quickly developed into a serious downfield threat for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense, which is exactly the kind of play that former Patriots coach Bill Belichick envisioned when making the draft selection.
The Patriots are scheduled to travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs in Week 15 of the regular season.
