FOXBOROUGH, Mass — It was a slower day for the New England Patriots as they held a walkthrough practice on the third day of training camp.
However, there were still some things of note. So let's take a look at the top takeaways:
1. Morgan Moses returns
Ahead of training camp, head coach Mike Vrabel revealed that Morgan Moses would be on his own unique plan in an effort to manage his workload as the veteran tackle enters his 13th season. And that was apparent on Sunday, which was the second session, as he took part in the stretch portion of practice, but not in the team parts. However, he returned on Monday and slotted in with the starters as expected.
2. Lan Larison and Eli Raridon repping with starters
While it's Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson at the top of the depth chart, the role of the No. 3 running back
remains wide open, and even more so as Terrell Jennings is on the NFI list. So with that, it was of note that Lan Larison spent a lot of time repping with the starters on Monday during the walkthrough session. Eli Raridon, who is the frontrunner for the TE2 spot, was also with the top unit for much of the day.
3. Some Competition between Efton Chism and Kyle Williams
Going into the summer, many thought one of the top wide receiver competitions was between DeMario Douglas and Efton Chism, but the early days of training camp seem to imply that's not the case. Douglas has spent much of the time with the top receivers, working with A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, and Kayshon Boutte. However, it's Chism and second-year receiver Kyle Williams who are vying for that final spot, as Chism was with the starters for some of the walkthrough before he and Williams swapped places.
4. Attendance
There were no unexpected absences at training camp on Monday, with fullback Reggie Gilliam having returned after missing the day prior.
The only players missing were on either the non-football injury list or the physically unable to perform list.
PUP: OLB Harold Landry, TE CJ Dippre
NFI: S Brenden Schooler, RB Terrell Jennings, Edge Gabe Jacas
What's Next?
The Patriots will return to the field for their fourth training camp practice on Tuesday, July 28, which is expected to be a heavier workload after a quieter walkthrough session.
