New England Patriots wide receiver Efton Chism III is now etched in Patriots' lineage in a way that some might not expect. The playmaker sat down for an interview with Julian Edelman earlier this week and talked about the organization’s history with slot receivers.
The Patriots have had some tremendous slot receivers over the decades. Edelman, Wes Welker and Danny Amendola are just some of the names on that list. Chism teased the possibility of being the next name on that list after making two clutch catches in last week's upset win over the Buffalo Bills.
That includes a 23-yard one-handed, game-winning touchdown grab.
“Now, I got another question. Why do you think people compare us? If you had one thing to pinpoint it on, what do you think it it is?
Why do you think they compare us? “ Edelman asked Chism on the Gronk & Jules Show.
Chism joked, "Shoot, probabaly just the way we look."
"The way we look? Wait, that we're white? You can say it, bubs," said Edelman. "It's alright. Small white guy."
Chism agreed with Edelman's comments, but the three-time Super Bowl champion had more to say on the topic during the interview.
"Well, I just want to let you know I had to deal with it with Welker. So welcome to the club, bubs. Welcome to the club," said Edelman. "Every time I stepped on the field when I was first on the team everyone used to call me Baby Wes, and I was like three inches taller and 20 pounds heavier."
It's okay @EftonChism, you can say why they compare you to @Edelman11 🤣 pic.twitter.com/KGfgcf7Qwg

The Patriots would obviously love it if Chism grows into the player Edelman and Welker were for the organization.
Both are franchise legends who put up big numbers for the team for many years. Chism has teased that he could be a major contributor on offense if given an opportunity. With both A.J. Brown and Mack Hollins out for Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the 24-year-old wideout from Eastern Washington might once again get his chance to compete.
