New England Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams quickly weighed in on Christian Gonzalez's ongoing contract talks with the team.
Despite all of the outside noise, Williams is confident that a deal will eventually get done. He also believes that Gonzalez deserves to be one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.
“100 percent," Williams said on Jones & Keefe, when asked if he feels like Gonzalez should be one of the highest-paid corners. "I feel like it’s gonna happen. I feel like they’re just kind of talking through the details. ...They’re gonna want him on the team. Any team in this league would want him. He definitely worth it."
Gonzalez, a Pro Bowler and former All-Pro cornerback, has been engaged in contract talks with the Patriots
throughout the summer. There was hope that a deal would get done quickly after the Seattle Seahawks signed Devon Witherspoon to a historic contract.
That deal should have set the baseline for the negotiations between the Patriots and Gonzalez.
And yet, the two sides have yet to agree on an extension with the regular season opener against the Seattle Seahawks a little less than one week away.
Deals can come together quickly in the NFL, and the Patriots are hoping that's the direction the negotiations with Gonzalez end up going in.
