The New England Patriots announced on Friday that they are placing rookie edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins on injured reserve.
Hutchins will miss at least the next four games of the season, but this move opens up a roster spot for the Patriots to fill in the meantime. It's a disappointing turn of events for the team given the roster hits they've already taken at edge rusher this season.
Veteran Dre'Mont Jones is questionable to play in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a shoulder injury, and Harold Landry III missed all of training camp and the first two regular season games with a knee injury.
That has forced the Patriots to lean on second-year edge rusher Elijah Ponder and rookie Gabe Jacas as their top pass-rushing options.
As ESPN's Mike Reiss noted, the Patriots have placed a total of 16 players on injured reserve so far this year.

It's a rare run of bad luck for the team.
They can only hope that their fortunes change when going on the road to face a tough Jaguars team. It will be another physical battle that will have people in Patriots world holding their collective breath that the team escapes unscathed.
