There hasn't been a lot of noise regarding the New England Patriots and the November 10 trade deadline, but they could be angling to move veteran talent for draft picks.
One of the names that popped up last week was defensive tackle Christian Barmore.
According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the veteran defender "could be had" by a willing trade partner
, and the price to get him would be about a fourth-round draft pick."My understanding is the price would be about a fourth-round pick, and he may be tradable because if you look at his contract, he's making $13.3 million this year," Breer said on NBC Sports Boston. "So you'd be taking on a prorated number off of that if you did trade for him. His numbers balloon after this year. ...Those numbers aren't
guaranteed.
"So, a team could wind up walking away from that if they did trade for him. But this is a player that very clearly is available. And if somebody's willing to swing the Patriots a fourth-round pick, I think something could happen."
Barmore has played in seven games this season and has recorded 3.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits and a forced fumble. He had one tackle and half a sack in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Miami Dolphins.
His snap count has dipped behind Milton Williams and Cory Durden, who had a monster game with four tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for a loss and three quarterback hits. It remains to be seen if the Patriots would actually consider cutting ties with Barmore if the right offer came along.
The team is trying to compete while also attempting to build a younger and cheaper roster. That could mean moving on from some familiar faces.
