According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the New England Patriots worked out Spanish-born defensive end Diego Paz Gonzalez, who is with the International Player Pathway program.
Paz Gonzalez earned the American Football League Europe’s Most Improved Player of the Year award while playing for the Rhein Fire. During the 2026 season, he recorded 40 tackles, including five for loss, along with 8.5 sacks, four passes defensed and one interception.
New England continues to evaluate options for its pass-rushing unit as the team looks to build on a defense that has produced consistent pressure through the first five weeks of the season. Paz Gonzalez’s blend of production against the run and pass make him a notable name on the international circuit.
The Patriots
currently sit at 3-2 following their 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5. Their defense has been one of their biggest strengths this season, despite the many injuries, particularly at the edge rusher position.
The prospect of adding a developmental edge rusher with Paz Gonzalez’s profile would add depth to a unit that has been playing without Harold Landry III. Veteran Dre'Mont Jones also got banged up in Sunday's game against the Raiders.
