New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye revealed second-year offensive tackle Will Campbell as one of his teammates who has impressed him the most so far this season.
It makes sense considering the strong 2026 season that Campbell is putting together.
He has improved greatly as both a pass-blocker and a run-blocker. Over eight weeks, he has allowed only one sack on Maye, and he has a 76.8 overall offensive grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Even after his knee injury, he has continued to serve as a dependable piece for a Patriots offensive line that has been hammered by multiple injuries throughout the season.
“I would say big Will Campbell. I think he’s starting to speak up a lot more," Maye said on The Gronk & Jules Show. "He's starting to speak up,
and I think it’s hard for young players. ...Coming into it and really just trying to speak up more. The offensive line, you always need somebody up front to have a little crap to them.
"I think Will’s got that. He’s got that. And he shows it on the field, and he’s starting to show it more around here. And the guys can really believe that. The guys enjoy that, somebody up front who's got their back and talkative, and got some southern litte, 'You ain't gonna mess with me,' type of style to them."
Campbell has done a tremendous job of bouncing back from a rocky playoff run last season, after he returned from an MCL injury. There were initially questions about whether he was the long-term answer for the Patriots' left tackle position, but he has worked hard to prove doubters wrong.
Granted, he is still under the microscope, but with each passing week, he is proving to be everything the Patriots hoped he would be when they spent the No. 4 overall pick on him in the 2025 NFL Draft.
