The New England Patriots have the opportunity to strengthen their injury-depleted offensive line in the trade market this season, and it could come from the Washington Commanders.
ESPN formulated a hypothetical trade that sends Commanders veteran offensive lineman Andrew Wylie and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. The move would give the Patriots additional depth on paper without giving up a premium draft pick.
New England has faced significant injury concerns along its offensive line this season, particularly to Mike Onwenu, who is on injured reserve. Alijah Vera-Tucker and Ben Brown are also dealing with injuries after both players got hurt in Week 6. Acquiring an experienced lineman would provide
much-needed reinforcement for New England as the Patriots work to maintain stability up front.
Wylie is competing for playing time in Washington, and he would have an opportunity to pursue a larger role in New England. He has allowed only one pressure this season, albeit across only 15 snaps played.
The potential move also carries significance as veteran tackle Morgan Moses approaches retirement. Wylie's ability to play both left and right tackle offer New England a player with valuable flexibility who is capable of helping address its long-term needs at the position.
