The Buffalo Bills are reportedly releasing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
This news comes after the veteran defensive back served a one-game suspension for a spitting incident that occurred in the team's Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Gardner-Johnson was forced to miss the Week 8 game the following week against the Baltimore Ravens.
Now, the Bills are reportedly cutting ties with the former Super Bowl champion altogether.
New England Patriots fans probably remember Gardner-Johnson from his post-game comments aimed at second-year wide receiver Efton Chism III, who made a game-winning touchdown reception against the Bills' defense in Week 4. Gardner-Johnson downplayed Chism's one-handed catch
and referred to him as an "elevated guy."
"A elevated guy made a helluva catch. You probably won't hear from him again, respectfully," Gardner-Johnson said, via WROC-TV's Thad Brown.
Chism has never been on the Patriots' practice squad. He entered the league as an undrafted rookie and made the team in training camp.
When asked to respond to Gardner-Johnson's comments, the former Eastern Washington standout took the high road.
"He’s a good player. They are a good team," Chism said on the Gronk & Jules Show. "You know, sometimes it is what it is. Like I said, he’s a good player, they’re a good team. I got a bunch of respect for them and what they do over there. Just gonna try to continue what we do over here."
