Former New England Patriots wide receiver and current Jacksonville Jaguars star Jakobi Meyers showed love to his former team prior to their upcoming Week 3 matchup.
Speaking in the locker room after the game, Meyers expressed his appreciation for having played for the Patriots, but he also noted that he is ready to compete against them with his new team, per Action Sports Jax. He had the perfect comparison for Sunday's meeting against the team that signed him as an undrafted rookie back in 2019.
”Those are the guys who gave me an opportunity, honestly, so it means a lot,” Meyers said. “It’s always good playing against them. Seeing former faces, former teammates, the staff that worked there, they were good to me. So, I always enjoy playing. Would
like to pull out the dub honestly. I always enjoy winning. It's like seeing your ex. You kind of want to make sure you look a little better, but you ain't tripping too bad, as long as they healthy, we healthy, everybody go out there and have a good game."
Meyers played for New England for four seasons until 2022. He helped the Patriots reach the playoffs in the 2021 season. He went on to play for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2023-25 before being traded to the Jaguars midway through last season.
The veteran Meyers will now play against the Patriots in Week 3 and get the chance to battle his former team in a pivotal game between both franchises who own 1-1 records on the year.
