Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman had thoughts on Drake Maye, who has continued to struggle through the first three weeks of the season.
So far, Maye has recorded 585 passing yards, one touchdown, six interceptions and one fumble. He threw two interceptions and lost one fumble in the Patriots' 35-6 blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
When talking about Maye's struggles, Edelman said he believes the third-year quarterback is "pressing a little bit" for things to happen.
“Drake Maye looks very uncomfortable. He's lost his confidence. ...I feel bad for Drake. I know he’s putting the time and effort in; it’s just that he’s pressing a little bit," Edelman said on FOX Sports. "This is probably the first bit of anything
that’s been hard for the kid. You go golf with him, he shoots a 78. You go do a three-point competition, he’ll win that. He’s good at baseball. I saw him at the softball tournament hitting dingers left and right. Maybe a little adversity will toughen him up.”

Edelman isn't alone in his assessment of Maye.
When appearing on Up & Adams, former Super Bowl-winning coach Bruce Arians also mentioned that he sees a young quarterback pressing to make something happen.
Fixing Maye ultimately falls on the coaching staff, but more importantly, it also falls on Maye himself. The talented quarterback who took the NFL by storm last season and went on a run that nearly won him the 2025 MVP and the Patriots a Super Bowl is still in there somewhere.
He just needs to be found.
