The New England Patriots approach their Week 4 matchup against the Buffalo Bills searching for answers after they’ve gotten off to a slow start to the year with limited scoring and costly turnovers.
According to NFL.com’s Anthony Holzman-Escareno,
the Patriots are last in the NFL in points per game (9.7), offensive touchdowns scored (2), red-zone touchdown percentage (16.7 percent), and tied for last with eight giveaways. The Patriots have not looked like the team that they were last season. A.J. Brown went down with an injury in Week 1, which cannot be overstated, but the team was lauded for the fullness of its offensive talent around him and quarterback Drake Maye prior to the start of the season. However, without Brown in the lineup, they have not performed
up to expectations.
New England’s rushing attack has not provided enough support to get the team into scoring range or capitalize when in the red zone. The unit has placed greater pressure on the passing game to create touchdowns. Establishing a more physical, efficient ground game near the goal line will help the Patriots convert possessions into points moving forward.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his six interceptions have been a major reason why the team’s offense has played the way it has. Maye will look to be efficient and produce in volume against Buffalo, which will put New England in the best position possible to win the game.
