What is the story about?

In one of the more surprising moves throughout the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys released quarterback Joe Milton III on Monday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The New England Patriots sent Milton and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick last offseason. A move that was initially met with frustration from fans seemingly worked out better for the Patriots

in the end.

Milton, a former sixth-round draft pick, served as a backup for the Patriots in a quarterback room that also included Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett. There were expectations that he would take over as the No. 2 quarterback in 2025, but the Patriots opted to move in a different direction.

Milton has a cannon for an arm and incredible running ability to be a serviceable quarterback in the NFL.

He's also only in his third year with plenty of upside and ways to improve under center. That being said, the competition in the NFL is on another level, and Milton will have to work hard to earn a spot now and in the future
