The New England Patriots are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. They have a ton of playmakers defensively, but they could use a little more depth at the edge rusher position.
So, for this week’s Gimme Him, Nick Herbig would be the perfect fit off the Steelers' roster.
The Wisconsin product has proven to be a solid complementary role player for the Steelers' defense. He was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and immediately made an impact for the organization, recording 20 combined tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in the season.
His big jump came last season, when he racked up 21 combined tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception in 15 games. After that impressive
run, the Steelers rewarded him with a five-year extension in June.
The Patriots could use a boost on the edge with Harold Landry still sidelined with an injury. They are currently down to Dre'Mont Jones, Elijah Ponder, Gabe Jacas and Quintayvious Hutchins as the primary outside linebackers. On paper, it is one of the more underwhelming units in the entire NFL.
Herbig has a high motor with the ability to force turnovers at any given moment. He has nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in his career. One of the biggest struggle areas for the Patriots' defense in last week's loss to the Seahawks was creating turnovers.
They could use another disruptive force along the defensive front, and Herbig is a player capable of filling that role.
