New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and cornerback Christian Gonzalez will likely be teammates for many years to come.
Gonzalez agreed to a blockbuster four-year, $135 million contract extension with the Patriots late Monday night, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. There were concerns initially that the Patriots and Gonzalez would fail to get a deal done before the start of the season, and the star cornerback might consider sitting out Wednesday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fortunately for the Patriots, things never got to that point, and the team can now move forward to their Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks with their best defensive player on the field.
"Yeah Zo! Love," Maye posted in an Instagram story

Gonzalez is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and his presence should once again put pressure on Seattle's receivers.
Despite the Patriots' offensive struggles, Gonzalez held Seahawks All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to only four catches for 27 yards in the Super Bowl. A repeat effort would give the Patriots a legitimate shot at pulling off an upset on the road at Lumen Field.
