Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs had an eventful debut with the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Diggs recorded four receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ narrow 24-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The veteran receiver quickly became Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ most frequently targeted option, drawing nine targets and providing a dependable presence in key situations, especially in the fourth quarter.
His biggest play came midway through the fourth quarter, when he caught a 10-yard touchdown pass to pull Washington within two points. The score gave the Commanders momentum prior to the Eagles sealing the deal at the end of the game.
Diggs had a penalty called on him that changed Washington’s
approach on the ensuing conversion attempt. The setback forced the Commanders into a more difficult position as they attempted to close the gap.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Diggs showed why Washington brought him in. His ability to create separation, draw defensive attention and serve as a reliable target makes him a central piece of the Commanders’ passing attack.
