The New England Patriots need help at right guard, and Ben Brown has been chosen as the next man up.
Starting right guard Mike Onwenu got injured in the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and backup Greg Van Roten went down with an injury the following week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
That created a competition this week between Brown and Walter Rouse to see who would get the opportunity to start in Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. On Friday, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel revealed that Brown would be the team's first option at right guard.
And Brown is ready for that challenge.
“Yeah, very confident,” Brown said, via MassLive's Mark Daniels. “I’ve been fortunate enough to be here going on to year three now. I’ve had a lot of
playing experience while being here and, you know, confident in Josh and his play calls, confident in Drake and confident in all the adjacent O-linemen that I’ll be playing by. So, yeah, I feel good.”
Brown initially came to the Patriots in October 2024, when he was signed off the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad. He has been a dependable reserve option for the team with 14 starts under his belt.
Losing Onwenu was a huge deal for the Patriots, but there's hope that Brown can step in and help soften the blow.
