New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had an explanation for the key fumble that occurred in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
When speaking with media members after the game, Maye claimed that center Jared Wilson's hand was bleeding, and there was blood on the ball when he dropped back to pass. Granted, he didn't use it as an excuse, and he still said he needs to hold onto the football regardless.
A close-up photo of Maye's hand during the play might have revealed some blood on the inside of the thumb area. But that won't hold up well as an excuse on a day when Maye also threw two interceptions. That makes seven turnovers overall through the first three games for the 24-year-old quarterback.
On his fumble,

Maye will have a chance to go back to the drawing board and come out ready to compete in a tough road matchup against the Buffalo Bills next week.
Turning the ball over is brutal no matter who you face in the NFL, but those kinds of mistakes are even more glaring when going head-to-head with arguably the best quarterback in football, Josh Allen.
